Before starting any ride through Wharton
State Forest, visit the
Atsion Ranger Station or the Batsto Visitor Center for information on
the current forest conditions. Please follow the International
Mountain Biking Association's Rules of the Trail while
riding.
Always
wear a helmet. Bring along water, a snack, a multi-tool, spare inner
tube and tire pump when riding the longer trails.
Please take
notice of the circular trail markers while riding.
One marker means
continue straight.
Two markers on top of each other, designates a turn.
The direction of the turn is indicated by the offset of the top marker.
Three markers, with two on top of each other and the third on the
side means this is a spur leading to a different trail.

Batsto Area All Terrain Bicycle Trails
- Short
Loop (Yellow Circles)
The Batsto Short Loop is approximately a half mile in length and was
designed for children and first time riders. The trail head can be
found at the back of the Batsto Village Visitor Center
parking lot, towards the right hand side, before the first picnic
tables.
The trail is marked with yellow circles. Motorized vehicles and
equestrians are not allowed on this trail.
Please do not ride your bicycle through the picnic area or down the hiking
trails.
- Fire
Tower Trail (Green Circles)
The Batsto Fire Tower Trail is approximately five and half
miles in length. Close to two thirds of this mileage is firm
singletrack, with
the
remainder of the mileage being two hard packed wagon roads. The
trail head
can be
found at the back of the Batsto Village Visitor Center parking
lot, in the left hand corner.
The trail is marked with green
circles. Motorized
vehicles and equestrians are not allowed on the singletrack sections
of this trail. The sections of wagon road included in the trail
are multi-use.
- Penn Creek Trail (Orange Circles)
The Batsto Penn Creek Trail is nearing its development completion.
This trail extends the Fire Tower Trail northward on both its east
and west sides to create a singletrack loop that is well over eighteen
miles in length. This route is aimed at providing experienced bicyclists
a longer
and
more
challenging
singletrack
ride.
The trail will soon be marked with
orange circles. Motorized
vehicles and equestrians are not allowed on this trail.
We hope
to have this route marked and groomed before October 2008.
- Jemima Mount Trail (Red
Circles)
The Batsto Jemima Mount Trail is currently under routing development.
This trail will be nested in a corner of the Penn Creek Trail loop.
This route will give bicyclists the option of riding over Jemima
Mount. We hope to have this route completed and marked before January
2009.
